DOVER and SHERBORN -
Thumbs up
A new book about Emily the Cow — now that’s
great news. Almost everyone in this area knows about Emily who,
at the age of 2, escaped a Hopkinton slaughterhouse and was found
by nonmeat-eating members of the Peace Abbey who bought her from
the slaughterhouse for $1. She stayed at the abbey for the rest
of her life, before she died from cancer in 2004. So many newspaper
and magazine articles have been written about Emily that it only
makes sense for them to be compiled into a book. And that’s
just what the Peace Abbey’s Meg and Lewis Randa did. The book
is a wonderful testimony to animal with a very unusual life. We’d
urge anyone to grab a copy either from the Peace Abbey’s gift
shop or from Amazon, Borders or Barnes & Noble online.
