Greater Boston Vegetarian Resource Center

Our Mission:
The Greater Boston Vegetarian Resource Library was created to provide educational resource materials to inspire and assist in the adaptation of a vegetarian lifestyle. It is our intention to promote reverence and respect for all living beings through vegetarianism.

The Resource Library has its roots in the steady pacifist evolution of The Strawberry Fields Alternative High School. Now sharing the grounds of The Pacifist Memorial and Veganpeace Animal Sanctuary, the Resource Library is a welcome addition for those who seek guidance, inspiration, and support on the journey to cruelty-free living. Maynard Clark who started the Boston Vegetarian Society in 1986, generously donated most of the educational resources to create the Resource Library at The Peace Abbey.

Our Resources:
The Greater Boston Vegetarian Resource Library contains a wealth of inspiring, compelling, and fascinating books, periodicals, newsletters, audio and video tapes. A myriad of diverse and tantalizing cookbooks abound, with a copy machine available to sample recipes. Relevent messages adorn t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs, and totebags which are displayed for viewing, and possible purchase. The Library also plans to offer vegetarian cooking classes.

Our Invitation:
We invite you to become a member of The Greater Boston Vegetarian Resource Library. Membership is currently free of charge, but donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. Donations will be used to expand the Library and hire paid staff.

As a member, you will:

Have borrowing privileges
Be on our mailing list and receive announcements of important events (cooking classes, lectures, etc.)
Connect with other vegetarians and animal rights folks
Be aware of future Abbey award ceremonies
Have contact with the animals at the Veganpeace Animal sanctuary
Stay involved in activities that keep vegetarianism in the public's eye.

We need volunteers to catalog resources, staff the library, offer classes, assist at special events and other media resources.

A Vegetarian diet is better for the animals, the environment, and your health. With the single act of adopting a vegetarian lifestyle, you will:

Improve your health
Reduce the needless suffering of animals slaughtered for food
Protect and restore billions of tons of soil destroyed for feed crops
Help save vast amounts of precious water used in the production of meat
Defend against deforestation through grazing, and its consequent climate change
